3 Things I’m Giving Up in 2020

After thirty years on this planet, I realized that I suck at following up with resolutions. Mine usually revolved around my getting back into shape, and I definitely never actually get back into shape. Instead, I’m choosing previous habits or activities that I am giving up in 2020.

Weekday Drinking

I’m one of those weird people that actually think gin and tonics taste great. If we went out to eat during the week, I would always have some fun drinks while we were eating. I also have a bad habit of treating myself to a French 77 while watching jeopardy.

I’m giving up weekday drinking in 20202 because it was adding unnecessary calories to my diet. I also was retaining so much salt and water due to the alcohol which left me bloated. Does this mean I won’t enjoy a cocktail on the weekend or on vacation? Not necessarily, but monitoring the calories from alcohol is something I will focus on.

Striving for Perfection

Ever since I was little, I always wanted to be as perfect as I could be. I wanted the best grades, the best tennis record, you get the picture! Although 2019 was a great year in general for me, I did find myself striving for perfection more than I should have. I’m giving up this habit in 2020 because I want to enjoy my own life!

If something falls into place along the way, then that is amazing, but I won’t be going out of my way to make it happen. This mostly goes for my blog as well as social media. We all know how I feel about social media by now anyway!

Unnecessary Shopping

Although I am not the most sustainable person, it is something that I am working on. One of my worst habits is just shopping to shop, and I am stopping that. Like some of you, shopping was almost a form of therapy. Since we are packing up the house to move to our new home soon, I have found so much that I did not remember buying, did not like anymore, or asked myself why!

Not only is that creating clutter and wasting money, but feeding the fashion machine is not something I want to be doing as often. Finding more sustainable brands and products is a huge goal of mine for the new year. Say goodbye to useless items and say hello to being reasonable!

Good picks, friend! You’ve got this! 🙂 I’m still in my no spend month and going strong so far. It’s definitely helping me stay mindful of how much I was spending on things I didn’t actually need, so I’m hoping to keep that mindset even after January is done.

Yes, I can’t wait to see what you thought of it! I want to do one when we get our house finished!

I love this idea of setting goals based on what you are giving up! I also need to give up putting pressure on myself to achieve perfection. I definitely think it will help me relax more! Thanks for sharing!

I’m trying to avoid shopping as well – which is really, really hard cause I feel like I constantly want something. I think I’m also going to try and budget myself properly. That’s my goal for the decade which I hope will trickle down for the rest of the decade.

    with love,
    Hey Bash

Girl, same! Working in blogging and social media is awful for trying to resist shopping!

Definitely! I also have been decluttering our house for our move, and it has become so apparent how much we have accumulated!

Such great goals for the year ahead! I’m trying to shop less too – I have bought quite a bit in the sales though, spending a Christmas gift card I got, haha! I’ll try be good for the rest of the year!

Hope that you are having a great week 🙂

I always think gift cards are a pass! After we finish up our house, I’m going to seriously attempt a no spend month, but until then, house things are expensive, sadly.

For 2020 I’m really focusing on my plastic usage and trying to ditch single use plastic as much as I can! I know it’s a big goal and is something that’s not available all the time but a little bit goes a long way for me! Love the blogpost!

I really want to do that as well! I think any small changes are always a great step!
