I bought a Norvell Oasis Spray Tan Machine, and this is what happened.

If you aren’t aware, I’m a natural redhead. You know what this means? I’ve been pale my entire life. I’m not just saying that I was fair, I’m saying that you could probably see my blood pumping through my veins I was so pale. A few weeks ago, I bought a spray tan machine off of Amazon for a few reasons.

The main reason being that I love the look of a spray tan, but I hate going to get one. I worked in a tanning salon when I was in my early twenties (I know, kinda funny, right?), and I knew things that I probably shouldn’t have known about the tanning booth. Either way, it was weird.

Another reason is that they can be so freaking expensive. I never wanted to sign a contract for spray tans at my local tanning salon, and if you just wanted them for special occasions, it was still super expensive, and it was just a machine doing it, no humans were involved.

The actual process of choosing a machine

I’m pretty sure that the last human spray tan I had was when I was a sophomore in high school which is not recent by any means. I got the idea to start looking for machines literally out of nowhere. Here I was at 10pm looking up a spray tan machine on Amazon.

Pro Tip: Amazon reviews are there for a reason, read them.

After reading about 1000 reviews on Amazon, I ended up pick the Oasis Spray Tan Machine Kit that came with spray tan solutions, as well as an actual tent for spraying, and even things to put on your feet to protect the bottom from any residue.

It seemed the most straight forward out of all of the machines. Considering that me and my partner have never used a spray tan machine before, this seemed like the most logical option. It also seemed like the best deal as well. I was able to get everything I needed to get started for just under $220 bucks.

The first spray

I’m kind of mad at myself that I didn’t take photos of the first time using it! Shockingly enough, it actually went okay! My first time using this machine was the day before the Fourth of July, I know, I was brave.

The end result was actually great! It seemed like I had been somewhere and had it professionally done. I waited the full 8 hours for the tan to develop, and I used the Norvel Venetian Solution that came with the package, and it gave a really natural tan.

One error that we made the first time was spraying way too close! There was quite a bit of running and dripping, and it was kind of a panic moment! We were able to use a sunless tanning mitt that I already had to rub out the bad spots, and it ended up looking great!

My final thoughts on my spray tan machine

I’m not going to lie, I have become fully obsessed with my Oasis Spray Tan Machine! It is just incredibly easy to use, and is perfect for beginners. I have used it about four times now, and my partner has used it three times and he loves it too! The solution that came with the package is still going strong, and we haven’t had to purchase anything else.

One thing to note is that the solutions that come with the Oasis Spray Tan Machine are quite rich in color. Even though I am quite pale, I like a deeper tan, so it doesn’t bother me at all. If you’re looking for a lighter tan, then I think you would need to order another solution, but they are actually quite affordable!

Thank you so much for this review.
Q: Which sunless tanning solutions did you use with the Oasis Spray Gun?
    Which colors by Norvell?

    Thank you!

The package I bought came with the Venetian solution, I now use the Venetian one which develops in an hour! Both give a natural dark tan that doesn’t look orange!

    Thank you so much.
Q2: Have you tried the Venetian Plus or Premium Double Dark by any chance? I know these two are the darkest available.
Q3: Can I use the Oasis Spray Gun on myself?
How easy is it to really use on a scale from 1-10 (10 being easiest)?

Thank you. Thank you, because there is not many reviews on the Oasis Spray Gun.

No problem, I haven’t used any of the really dark products because I’m too fair haha. If you have someone to do it for you, it is easily a 10. Neither of us had any experience in using a self tan machine, and we have never had streaks, spots, or anything! You could maybe you it alone after some practice. On your legs, arms, and front for sure. Your back may be an issue though! Hope this helps!

    Yes, you are very helpful.
I am so glad to hear that the Oasis is easy to use.
Yes, the back is always an issue for most people. If anyone has any helpful tips, please pass them along!

I am going to order the Oasis Spray Gun and Premium Double Dark Sunless Solution.

Q4: How many ounces did you use or one application?
How long does the sunless solution last for you?

    Thank you again and again.

Thanks! I fill up the bottle about halfway and that is usually more than enough. I just pour the rest of the solution back in the bottle. My tan usually lasts around 2 weeks! The tent that you can order with it on amazon is so worth the purchase. It cuts down on any cleanup, and it is really easy to store. I also have the best results when I stand further back and spray, it goes on more evenly.

    Oh, yes! THE TENT!
    I forgot about that!

I was wondering if the sunless spray got on other things around (furniture, counters, floors, etc…)!

    Which tent did you order?
How much do they normally cost?

I totally forgot about the tent, because I would need something for the overflow for sure.
I was just going to use an old sheet! LOL

Mine came as part of the pack I got on amazon. You can find some for around 20 I think!

Again, I appreciate your help and feedback.

How much was the kit/pack that you purchased off Amazon?
The cheapest that I have found for the entire mobile kit is $750.

    One last question, please?
Where and how do you store your Oasis/Sunless Tanning products?

Oh wow, mine was like $100? I think! I just keep the machine in it’s box in my closet, and the tent goes behind the door in my home office!

It was $219 actually! I have a link in the post to the exact one that I got!

I greatly appreciate all your help with my questions about the Norvell Oasis airbrush machine.
I think that I am going to take the plunge and purchase one (*fingers crossed*)!
I will also be purchasing the Norvell Double Dark sunless solution.

Honestly, do you think that I will enjoy it and find it relatively easy to use?
I love being tan, but I don’t want to use tanning beds or lay in the sun for hours at the time.
Plus, I want something a little more than the self-tanners that we use at home.

Overall, last thoughts and suggestions for me before I purchase the Oasis?

Thank you so very much for your time and help!

We have really enjoyed using ours! It takes less than 5 minutes to spray an entire body, and it dries so quick. We have gotten rid of our memberships to our local spray tan place, and it gives me the most natural tan. I can also travel with it and just use it in the shower while I’m away!

    Thank you, again!
I am going to take the plunge before the summer gets here. LOL

I guess that I am worried about streaking and not having an even tan?
I will definitely learn how to use it, but I am just worried that I will not “spray” properly and get a weird application.
However, Norvell sunless tanners are great about not streaking as much as some brands.

Just out of curiosity? Have you tried any other brands in the past?
I found a cheaper airbrush gun, but I really want to stick with Norvell Oasis. Besides, the price difference isn’t that much.

So, it only takes 5 minutes?
I want it even more now. LOL
    You are so helpful.

we have never had any issues with streaming at all, even the first time! This is the first machine that we used other than professional ones at salons. And yes, it takes no time at all. We can get both of us sprayed in just under 10 minutes. It’s also really easy to clean too.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome!
I will be paying over $200, so I wanted to make sure this would be a good investment.

    Last few questions, please?

How and how often do you clean the Oasis?
Last, would once a week be too much to airbrush tan?

    • ashleestuart
      February 24, 2020 / 2:03 pm

We clean it out each time we use it. If you use a lot of exfoliants or take baths, then maybe not. I also recommend getting a body scrub brush off amazon to help remove any leftover tan before you tan again!

How is the Oasis operated like a blow dryer (i.e. plug into electrical outlet)?

Yes, mine just plugs in and the I press down on a trigger button to use it.

    This is super awesome!
I am currently about to purchase my own, so I want to ensure I find the best option.
Did the kit you bought also come with an opportunity to take a free course through Norvell? They advertise this on their website, but I am wondering if it comes with all products.

Nope, we got ours off of amazon. It is seriously user friendly though. I think ours came with two different solutions, but we have purchased additional ones since.
