What no one tells you about growing your blog

I love blogging, and it has been one of the best things that I ever decided to do. Not only have I been able to develop skills that I didn’t think I had in me, but it has helped me find a career path that I love. Growing your blog can seem scary, and honestly, it can be! If you’re at the beginning of your blogging journey, then here are a few things that you might want to know about.

There is a lot of work in it

I never knew how much I would need to learn before I started my blog. In my mind, you just took the photo, wrote the post, put it up online. Let me be the first to tell you that there is seriously so much more when it comes to growing your blog. Being a blogger means that you are a marketing coordinator, a social media manager, a graphic designer, a research analyst, a venture capitalist (within reason), the list could keep on going.

For me, I’ve always wanted to continue learning. Thankfully, there is always something new in the world of digital publishing, and I’ll probably never run out of information that I don’t know. You’re going to be up for hours a day, you’ll have notebooks full of ideas that you want to bring into the world, and you’re going to have so many ideas that fail too. It’s really a trial and error kind of experiment.

Growing your blog will cost money

There are free versions of blogging, but if you’re ready to take it to the next level, then you need to be ready to invest some money into it. You’ll spend money on some things that are not so fun like domain names, hosting, and development costs. Eventually, you get to spend money on some fun things such as themes, fonts, and advertising.

The act of coming up with content won’t cost you anything, and that is the good news! You can even spend money if you’re trying to further your knowledge about the blogging industry! As they say, you have to spend money to make money. You don’t have to spend tons of money to start growing your blog, but it can help!

There is no such thing as overnight success

I’ll just go ahead and say it. There are blog posts upon blog posts about how to make $10,000 in your first “X” months of blogging. It’s not that easy to make money blogging, and everyone has their own rhythm that works. Unless you are a genius, then you probably won’t have millions of views your first month, and that’s totally okay!

If anything, you should be happy that anyone looks at your blog post, I know I am! Even if it is just ten people, those people still took time out of their lives to see what you’re writing, and that’s awesome! As long as you keep working towards growing your blog, success will come.

There needs to be some value

There are millions of blogs on the internet, and even millions that are probably writing about what you are writing about! The best way to set yourself apart is by making sure that you’re adding value into your blog! Not only does is validate your content, but it can be the reason why people keep coming back to your blog!

This can be done in numerous ways. My favorite way is by adding real content to my posts. Things that I have tried and know about. I also love to create ebooks and ecourses that go deeper into a topic. Even in your newsletter, you can add freebies that help your reader in some way. The options are endless.

I always love your blog posts, and I totally agree that it’s a lot harder than you think. Some people assume blogging is taking a few pictures and writing a couple of paragraphs and you’re done. When it’s actually a lot more time consuming xx

Thank you so much Hannah! Exactly, there is so much more than just taking photos and writing a few words! I think that’s probably why I have such a problem with Instabloggers, haha.

Love this post! It’s quite encouraging for me because I’ve just started blogging again after a long break and I want to take it seriously this time but it’s disheartening when I don’t get many views or likes. I know it takes time though so thanks for this 🙂

It totally just takes time! I also had to go through and see what content my audience was responding to. That helped so much! Also, consistent social strategies are amazing!

This is so true and insightful. I am still getting my feet wet and trying to attract and audience. It is very comforting to know that all of these lessons that I am learning are normal. I especially like your point about it taking time. Thank you for the encouraging post!
