Why Domain and Page Authority Matter

When I started blogging over three years ago, I literally had no idea about 95% of what it actually took to start blogging! SEO was a completely foreign topic to me, my photography skills were non-existent, and I had no idea what domain and page authority were! A lot has happened over the past few years, including the importance of domain and page authority!

I’m going to share a few things that I have learned over the past few years! Mainly because it all seems so technical, and it really doesn’t have to be! It can be broken down into four pretty simple explanations! First off, let’s talk about what they are. Domain authority is how valuable a search engine deems your website. Additionally, your page authority is how valuable a specific page is. Higher domain and page authority make your blog more likely to come up in searches.

It takes time to build!

When I found out about domain and page authority, you can believe that I ran over to the nearest website, and I had to find out what mine was. Before I looked it up, I had to find out what an average score was. The average score was around forty, and I was nowhere near that. Starting this blog up recently, I knew that domain and page authority are important. While it is easy to build up to a certain level, growing past that can be difficult. Have no fear, there are ways to improve your score!

While you’re growing your blog, there are a few things that you need to consider. Make sure that your website is mobile friendly. Most themes that you use for your blog are going to be automatically optimized for mobile usage. You can also make sure that your social media channels are all in order, and that it is easy for your content to be shared!

SEO matters people

I’m kind of a marketing nerd if you didn’t know. Not only do I work in digital marketing, but I’m even furthering my education because I like it so much. If you had told twelve year old me that I would be getting a master’s in digital marketing, I would have called you a liar. I recently did a post talking about SEO and why it is important. If you’re a WordPress user, then you can just download Yoast SEO, and it seriously does all of the work for you. Making your website as optimized as possible for search engines can seriously help your domain and page authority.

Linking your pages is part of SEO, but let me put some emphasis on the importance of internally linking your content. This is a great way to have your reader stay on your page longer. It also can lead to extra content that they might be looking for! In the same notion, make sure that your links aren’t broken. If you’re getting rid of a blog post, make sure that you remove that link from any posts that it might be in!

Supporting others can help too

The good news is that supporting your fellow bloggers can actually improve your domain and page authority. The logic behind this is that you want your link to appear on as many additional websites as possible. Remember, you’re trying to prove how valuable your website is to Google! When you leave a comment on another blog, you have the chance to leave a link in your signature. Now, hold on. I’m not telling you to go say “great post” and drop your link. Respond to the post, add to the conversation!

Another great way to get your blog out there is to do guest posting for other blogs. You can find these on a lot of blogging board or Facebook groups. A few of the groups that I belong to frequently have people requesting guest bloggers. You can also run a quick Google search to find some opportunities as well.
