How to write a blog post in under thirty minutes

A lot of people that I talk to are afraid of starting a blog because they don’t think they can dedicate the time to creating content. Surprisingly, that is actually the fun part of the blogging process. After writing blog posts for over three years, I have actually created a process which lets me create a blog post in under thirty minutes!

Keep a journal of ideas

I’ve always been the kind of person who enjoys making lists. I especially enjoy physically writing them down! I started keeping brainstorming journals when I was in middle school. Not only did it give me a place to write down my feelings, but I could also use it to organize my thoughts. When I started blogging, the journaling just came naturally to me. I have notebooks literally all over my house. Some have lists in them, some have outlines, and some have horrendous math problems that I still don’t understand.

Having a notebook of ideas is the key to writing a blog post in under thirty minutes. They give me a guide as to what the post is about, and it helps me stay on track. Also, I usually write blog posts long before they go up. By highlighting the posts that I have written, I know what I haven’t covered, and what is already done. If I have a spur of the moment idea, I’ll jot it down so that I can make sure I don’t forget about it. If I had an issue with something, but figured it out, then I’ll write that down too!

Yoast SEO

I’ve talked about Yoast SEO so many times, and I’m not going to apologize for it! SEO is incredibly important to your blog, way more than you think it is! I recently wrote a post about SEO, which you can see here. Most of us are not tech geniuses, and you really don’t have to be. If you’re using WordPress for your blog, then Yoast SEO is a must-have plugin. It essentially does your SEO for you and lets you know if there is anything you need to change or add. It took me a while to understand the importance of it, but I don’t know how anyone could function without it.

I love Grammarly!

I used to hate writing. Like, seriously, it was horrible. It was even worse because my mother was an English teacher, and probably the best writer that I have ever known. Grammar is something that I struggled with growing up. I was more of a history/art kinda girl. Grammarly is a browser extension that checks your writing for you. I use the free version, and it works on WordPress, emails, and pretty much anything on your browser.

It catches a lot of my errors that I make and has actually helped my writing over time. I make fewer mistakes than I did. Seeing stats about my writing skill is some serious motivation to get me in line. Plus, it makes writing a blog post in under thirty minutes totally stress-free. I know that my blog post will be free of mistakes, for the most part!
