4 Things You Should Be Doing Every Day to Feel Better

For some people, lockdown has been a lot harder than it has been forever. Not only has it disrupted our daily routine, but in some cases it has completely changed our lives. Most of the time we are escaping the grasp of seasonal depression by now, but being trapped in our homes can sometimes make that feeling last longer than it should. Here are 4 things I am doing every day to feel better!

Make Sure You Are Getting Good Sleep

For me, if I am not getting enough rest, I may as well stay inside with everyone far away from me. Not only can a lack of sleep make you irritable during the day, but it can also straight-up make you physically ill in some way. For those who may not be able to sleep throughout the night, taking a nap during the day may be the key to making sure your body is feeling rested

I am a huge fan of using meditations and ASMR videos to help me relax and wind down from the day. Creating a space where you want to sleep is also a great way to get the rest you need. A great pillow can make all of the difference in how your body actually feels while sleeping, one may be worth the investment!

Don’t Skimp Out on Drinking Water

Although I love a glass of rosé as much as the next person, if you are not getting enough water in, you’re going to feel sluggish and ill. Not only are we mostly made of water, but that is technically all we should be drinking. Put the Diet Coke down and fill up a glass of water. Drinking a sip of water here and there may not make you feel better instantly, but it can drastically change how you feel over time.

Admittedly, I am horrible at drinking water. I would much rather have that soda in the fridge than water most of the time. The way that I combat this is to find a water bottle that is easy to drink out of, looks good, and is a good size for me to carry around. I take it with me when I leave the house and even around different rooms to make sure that if I do get thirsty, I have the water to drink.

Get Up and Move Around

When we are stuck at home, it is so easy just to be lazy and lounge on the couch. This is something else that I am guilty of, especially since I work online. There have been some days where I sit on the couch probably 75% of the day! I have never been a fan of working out, mostly because I have not found something that doesn’t feel like a chore (if you have any ideas, let me know!!).

Every day I set a goal for how many steps I need to take. Sometimes I can get those steps easily just by doing things around the house or running errands, but sometimes it calls for me walking up and down the driveway a few times with my dogs, or around the house before dinner.

No matter what you have to do, make sure that you are spending 30 minutes per day doing something active. If you can squeeze in more, that’s great! You can also make a Pinterest board of your favorite workouts so that you can create your own schedule!

Do Something Just For You

If you are having a down day, make sure you do something that is just for you. Keeping the house clean, doing your necessary work, and taking care of the kids can take a serious toll on you. Make sure that you are leaving a few minutes per day for something that you enjoy to keep you sane.

I have been loving taking the time to read books, enjoy a nice bath, and research information about my future flower garden. There have been a ton of people that have developed new skills in lockdown too! Just find something that you are doing specifically for yourself. Not only is it going to help you grow as a person, but it can keep your spirits up as well!

      Oh no, if I don’t get enough sleep, I can feel it for the next day! It totally throws me off.

    Totally agree with all of your points! If I don’t get enough sleep I know about it the next day, as I feel awful and have no energy to do anything. I’ve started drinking more water too, and the benefits are great xx

      Yay! There are so many of us that don’t drink enough water. I can always tell exactly when my body needs water and it has helped me so much!

      We all can be bad at it, so I feel you! I always tell myself to drink a bottle of water after I drink some wine or a soda to balance it out!

    This is such a helpful post!, I definitely need to take some of these tips. I just brought the cutest water bottle from New Look to try and encourage me to drink more water because I’ll always reach for a cold bottle of coke over a water at the moment haha!.

      Honestly, buying a new water bottle is such good motivation for me! I am the same way though, I love a Diet Coke!

    This is a lovely post! We all need to look after ourselves in these crazy times. Getting good sleep is so hard right now, but it’s important to keep trying new things – lavender spray, tracking your sleep patterns… I love ASMR because it is so relaxing and can get you ready for sleep.     I think drinking a lot of water and exercising have been making me feel a lot better during quarantine. I also have been cooking/baking more with a focus on whole ingredients, which also has made my body feel SO good! 🙂

      Yes! I have been really enjoying cooking and baking right now. Not only am I able to discover new talents, but it is really rewarding to share my creations with my loved ones as well.

    These are great tips! I do number 2 and 3 but could use more of number 1 and 4. Actually I have been feeling lost lately so it’s hard to find focus. But instead of trying not to feel why I need to feel lost, I am just doing things a lot slowly and seeing how I feel in the end. I have been asking my son to snuggle in the afternoon for a catnap but hasn’t worked yet! He is such a mover and I am just old!
